Some of my previous posts praised hello fresh and other meal box companies. However, I was very disappointed in my last interaction with them.
I had the hello fresh app on my phone, and I (I guess stupidly) trusted the application every week to notify me to choose my meals, so I would have the chance to either choose my meals for the week or skip that week.
The app must have logged itself out, because on Sunday, my husband checked our credit card statement and he saw a 69.00 charge from Hello Fresh. He knew I would have told him if I had ordered from them, because I hadn’t been – I had been doing menu planning myself each week, and that had been going really well.
I first tried to log in to see the meals – and that is when I noticed that I had been logged out and they were meals that I would absolutely not have chosen. Customer service was closed, so I immediately emailed them. The next morning I called, and I was not treated very respectfully. I explained what happened, how I had ordered multiple times and even sent them two referrals, and I was just asking them to please cancel my order BECAUSE I HAD NOT ORDERED IT OR AUTHORIZED IT . They said no and offered either half refund or a new box. I just opted for the new box BECAUSE THEY REFUSED TO GET ME THE REFUND OF WHAT I DIDN’T ORDER. Once I got the new box, I canceled Hello Fresh. I think they have a good product but I just did not like the way that I was treated on the phone. They were very unkind and rude to me. I thought that what they should have done, if they wanted to keep a customer, was to refund me the whole box that I did not order. I will never be using them again.
I imagine that they get a lot of revenue from people who make the same mistake as me. 😦
I loved it. The meals were delicious, easy to cook, and just a little bit “different” and no like what I would usually cook. The package came in time and there were no issues with the packaging. All the food was very fresh.
I only have pictures of two of the meals. This is keema curry with naan. I had never made curry before and it was great! The portion was great, and the different spices really punched up the taste of the meat. My husband and I both loved it. The naan was very fresh and tasty as well. I am a sucker for good naan. It was real good. This meal was called Greek poutine. It was thinly sliced potatoes with deconstructed pork sausage (pork with lot of spices and red wine vinegar and orange juice) topped with feta sauce and arugula. It was so good! I had never mad anything like it.
The third me mealcwas glazed chicken with roasted Brussels sprouts and onion. The glaze was something I had never done before and it was really delicious. It mixed maple syrup with orange zest and a few other ingredients and the glaze cooked down in the pot. Yum. The glaze really elevated whatnwpuld have been just okay pan cooked chicken. Brussels sprouts and onions were of course food but I always make them.
I love them. Every Tuesday and Thursday, there is a small farmers market right outside my office. I wish it was larger. Once in a while I will splurge and buy a scone for myself. Splurge hahah who am I kidding – I eat pastries all of the time :). Luckily now that I am breastfeeding though no matter what I eat the weight manages to fall off. But I digress. Anyway, back to farmers markets. I came up with the idea that the town where I live, Valley Stream, should have a farmers market. So far, I have taken one step. I contacted Fresh Connect. Fresh Connect is a program which has multiple facets in New York State, one of which brings farmers markets to areas which do not have them and would benefit from them. There was a button on their website which said “Want a Farmers Market in Your Area?” – yes! I clicked through and filled out the form, explaining why I thought a farmers market would be beneficial in our area and my contact information.
I really hope Fresh Connect contacts me soon! I am excited to get this project started.
Does anyone have advice on how to start a farmers market?
